THIS GIRL JANELLE MONAE
Right now I’m really crushing on Janelle Monae’s style; I
mean the woman is ever in tuxedos and a pompadour hair style. It’s her
trademark...for those of you who don’t know Janelle Monae, let me introduce
her:
I first met this girl Janelle through a music video (we are
young...a song by Fun featuring Janelle Monae). There she was dressed in a
clean-cut tuxedo, which I was to later discover is her trademark look. Sweet
voice although she sang for less than 60 seconds. She was gone in 60 seconds,
literally, (pun intended). Which made me look for her music and I am currently
in the process of downloading it. Did I mention she was sporting her usual neat
natural coif? It’s uh-mazing! Nothing short of unique! Even though all her counterparts
are rocking human-hair, extravagant weaves/wigs or relaxed hair she chose to go
completely natural. And yes, she’s African. Well...black American. You know,
the ones with the infamous kinky, unmanageable hair...she’s one of them. But
nevertheless she wears it onstage and offstage, making it an admirable trait of
hers, in that she is not ashamed of her African roots. And money and fame will
not make Janelle change her hair to the Hollywood style, at least not yet! So
kudos to Janelle for her mind-blowing style and African Pride!!
